The mission at The Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) is to create and retain jobs through programming that grows our neighborhoods, assists small businesses and promotes tourism and business development.
Since 1977, QEDC has worked with scores of neighborhoods to revitalize their commercial districts by creating business organizations and establishing business improvement districts. Entrepreneurs are assisted in the preparation of business plans through individual counseling, classes and workshops. The Queens Tourism Council promotes the many cultural, recreational and retail opportunities within the borough.
QEDC is a nonprofit governed by a board of directors representing the borough’s many community and business sectors. It is funded by the New York City Department of Small Business Services, the New York State Department of Economic Development and the Small Business Administration in addition to generous support from New York City Council elected officials and the private sector. QEDC is a focal point for economic development efforts in a borough that encompasses about 2.3 million people from every corner of the world in more than 90 distinct neighborhoods. Emphasis is made to assist low and moderate income populations, women, immigrants and minorities.
